Kirbie Johnson is an on-camera host, podcaster, producer and journalist. Starting her career at millennial publisher POPSUGAR in 2011, she helmed several shows for the media company and grew POPSUGAR Beauty’s video prescence online.
Kirbie is obsessed with all things beauty, Hollywood and internet culture and has interviewed the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna, Viola Davis, Nicole Kidman, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and Gwyneth Paltrow; she has seen Britney Spears in concert more than should be acceptable for a grown woman. She’s taken her written content for publishers like Allure and turned it into fascinating videos for platforms like TikTok, Youtube Shorts and Instagram Reels, amassing millions of views and thousands of followers by sharing behind-the-scenes set secrets for shows like Euphoria, Stranger Things, Pam & Tommy and more.
She left POPSUGAR in July 2019 and launched Gloss Angeles, a beauty podcast, which pulls back the curtain of beauty marketing and Hollywood trends. She and co-host Sara Tan break down the bullshit in the industry while edu-taining their listeners on how ingredients actually work, what claims are simply marketing terms, and what upcoming brands they should invest their time and money in. Now three years old, their self-booked guest list includes Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, Halsey, Ciara, Laverne Cox, Lauren Conrad, Lana Condor, Barbie Ferreira as well as creators like Bailey Sarian, Emma Chamberlain and Brad Mondo, in addition to industry experts like Mario Dedivanovic, Renée Rouleau, Sharon Chuter, Dr. Dennis Gross and more. Gloss Angeles was nominated for a 2022 IHeartRadio Podcast Award in the Fashion and Beauty category and is represented by ACast.
Kirbie developed relationships with many of Hollywood’s glam squads an on-set hair and makeup teams, including Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury and Anh Co Tran, as well as some of the biggest influencers in the world. She has filmed and produced over 1000 segments in the space, more than other editor or reporter in the beauty field.
She’s been featured as a host on Freeform and an expert/personality on The Today Show, The BBC and The Doctors, has spoken at national events like South by Southwest, moderated panels at VidCon, Create & Cultivate, DragCon, VidCon, Phame Expo, Ulta Beauty’s General Managers’ Conference and The Freeform Summit. She has contributed to The Cut, Elle, Glamour, The Hollywood Reporter, Byrdie and InStyle and is Allure’s resident entertainment columnist.
Kirbie has a B.S. in Advertising and Public Relations from the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University and spent her time working at salons and spas before moving to Los Angeles. Prior to POPSUGAR, she worked in entertainment PR at Rogers & Cowan, worked red carpets like The GRAMMY Awards, Clive Davis’s GRAMMY Party and Elton John’s Oscar Party. She loves Britney Spears, her puppy Quinn, Disneyland, and Halloween, and is currently developing several shows (scripted and unscripted) based on her experience in the beauty industry.
