Don’t know her? You should. Grab some tea, friends, and get ready for a little story time.
It was as if God said, “I shalt take the integrity of a… savvy… editor and pair it with the personality of thy favorite talk show host.” Or maybe that was William Shakespeare? Regardless, that’s Kirbie Johnson.
Kirbie got her start at digital media publisher POPSUGAR, where she’s called home the past seven years. As host, senior producer and reporter, she’s helmed several shows on the network: celebrity interviews, tips and tricks and honest, no-BS beauty reviews. Her focus has been beauty; she grew up the daughter of a cosmotologist, hoarding copies of Allure like gold. During her tenure at PS, she’s gained a first-name basis with many of Hollywood’s elite hair and makeup artists, like Jen Atkin, Charlotte Tilbury and Anh Co Tran, as well as some of the biggest influencers in the world like Patrick Starrr, Kandee Johnson and Huda Kattan; it’s no surprise that viewers love her take on the latest and greatest in the beauty industry. Kirbie has filmed over 500 segments, more than other editor, influencer or reporter in her field.
Most people on the internet say they follow her for her personality: she provides editorial expertise and delivers it like a relatable, spunky confidant her audience has come to love. They also like hearing about her Hollywood charades: she’s interviewed stars like Viola Davis, Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Tyra Banks, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ariana Grande and has seen Britney Spears in concert more than should be acceptable for a grown woman.
Kirbie has been featured as a host on Freeform, and an expert and personality on The Today Show and The Doctors. She has spoken at national events like South by Southwest, moderated panels and events like DragCon, VidCon, Phame Expo, Ulta Beauty’s General Managers’ Conference and The Freeform Summit.
Kirbie has a B.S. in Advertising and Public Relations from the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University, and spent her time working at salons and spas before moving to Los Angeles. Prior to POPSUGAR, she worked in entertainment PR at Rogers & Cowan, handling red carpets like The GRAMMY Awards, Clive Davis’s GRAMMY Party and Elton John’s Oscar Party. She got her start working as an airbrush tanner in Los Angeles and a salon manager at Frederic Fekkai while writing freelance beauty articles. She loves puppies, Disneyland and horror films, and hopes one day to bring her own feel-good, reviews-and-interviews show to fruition.
